The Fairfax Coalition of Advocates for Public Schools (FairfaxCAPS) joins FAIRGRADE in calling for
Fairfax County Public Schools to adopt a standard 10-point grading scale.
“FairfaxCAPS agrees with FAIRGRADE that our county's grading policies penalizes our students,”
said Nick Pesce, President of FairfaxCAPS. “Here is yet another area where our
public officials and elected representatives should listen to and serve their constituents. Let
us hope that the Fairfax County School Board has the resolve to make the right decision. We
encourage all Fairfax County residents to contact Superintentant Dale and their School Board
representatives to demand immediate action.”
FAIRGRADE is a parent-driven research and advocacy group that was created in January 2008. After
months of research, FAIRGRADE has determined that FCPS grading policies put Fairfax students at a
disadvantage with respect to college admissions and other academic opportunities.
“We are proud to have FAIRGRADE as a brethren grassroots organization working to effect change
within our public schools,” said Pesce. “FairfaxCAPS itself was formed in 2007 as
a grassroots response to the School Board’s high school redistricting exercise.”
